The laptop equivalent to a PCI card (or PCI card slot) in a desktop PC. PC cards are credit-card-sized expansion cards for portable computers. A PC card can be a modem, storage, radio receiver, etc. PC Cards were originally called PCMCIA cards which stood for Peripheral Component Microchannel Interconnect Architecture. Confusingly, the organization that developed PCMCIA cards is called PCMCIA also, but stands for Personal Computer Memory Card International Association.

PCI is a standard for expansion slots on computer motherboards, allowing for adding peripherals. With the bus (pathway) provided by PCI, expansion cards are directly connected to the computer's CPU. PCI was designed by Intel. The laptop equivalent to PCI is PCMCIA.
