SDRAM is the type of memory used for the main system memory in modern PCs. DDR SDRAM is similar but designed to run at twice the speed. SDRAM stands for Sychronous Dynamic Random Access Memory. Synchronous: the memory runs at the same exact speed as the CPU. Dynamic: the memory has to be recharged constantly or it will lose its data. Random Access: the data in memory can be read and written in any order, not just, for example, first to last.
